Experience and Skills

Fiz is an integrative counsellor who blends Gestalt and Psychodynamic therapy with elements of Person-Centred and CBT. This means she can adapt her work to meet individual needs, combining depth-focused exploration with practical tools for change. Her style is warm, collaborative, and grounding - aiming to help clients feel both supported and gently challenged whilst facilitating meaningful shifts in their lives.

Her journey as a counsellor began with a BSc in Psychology and English, where she opted to study counselling as an elective. Following this, Fiz trained to teach, and taught in a range of secondary and sixth form contexts for almost two decades. Her varying roles had a pastoral as well as academic focus, including the mentoring and support of trainee teachers. She went on to complete a PGDip in Education with modules such as Leadership and Coaching, which reignited her desire to support adults through talking therapy. She is passionate about supporting those who work in education, and her lived experience of this context has enabled her to specialise in this area.

After completing a Level 4 Certificate in Counselling, Fiz pursued an MSc in Integrative Counselling, enhancing her theoretical knowledge and expanding her therapeutic expertise. As well as private practice, she continues her voluntary work with an NHS-affiliated hospice in Erdington, a low-cost counselling charity in Moseley and also works for an online service who offer counselling nationally. Some of the presentations she works with include, but are not exclusive to: depression, bereavement, relationship issues, financial worries, life transitions and anxiety. She also offers support to clients experiencing the challenges of peri/menopause, health anxiety and those struggling with age milestones and ageing generally.

Fiz enjoys research and her therapeutic approach is evidence-informed and current. She has recently presented at the national BACP research conference, and engages with a variety of CPD on a regular basis. As well as being a member of the BACP, she is an accredited registrant with NCPS and abides by the ethical standards of these regulatory bodies. She also attends regular supervision to ensure her practice continues to be ethical and effective.
